Q: What CAD system do I need to run SAFEWORK®?

A: SAFEWORK® can be used in conjunction with all major 3D CAD modeling systems. A comprehensive set of geometry translators ensures that product data can be quickly and intuitively imported into the SAFEWORK® application. In addition, users of CATIA V4/V5 and PTC DIVISION MockUp do not have to translate their geometry, as SAFEWORK® is directly integrated into these applications.

Q: I am using CATIA. Can SAFEWORK® be used within CATIA?

A: SAFEWORK Inc. was acquired by DASSAULT SYSTEMES in 2000. As a result, both the SAFEWORK® and CATIA development teams have worked together to integrate the SAFEWORK® technology into CATIA V5. The first release of this product, scheduled for V5.R6, is available in 2 configurations; Human Centered Design for basic human modeling requirements, and Human Engineering Analysis for detailed investigation into Human Product Interaction.

Q: I am using Pro/E. Can SAFEWORK® be used within Pro/E?

A: SAFEWORK® is integrated into the PTC Visualization solution, DIVISION MockUp. Users are able to leverage the power of SAFEWORK® human modeling technology in the context of the full suite of DIVISION MockUp simulation tools. PTC offers a standard "DIVISION SAFEWORK® Manikin" solution as well as an optional "Manikin Builder Option" for creating and managing user-specific manikin libraries.

Q: What kind of file format can I import into SAFEWORK®?

A: SAFEWORK® permits users to import files in all major 3D formats including STEP, IGES, STL, COOR, OBJ, DXF, SAT and SWX.

Q: I am not an expert in Human Factors. Can I still use SAFEWORK®?

A: Yes. SAFEWORK® is an intuitive application that has been designed to be used by a wide target audience. User-friendly GUIs and easy manipulation techniques ensures basic ergonomic analyses can be successfully completed by non-HF specialists. However, the Human Factors Specialists can utilize the full suite of SAFEWORK’s® powerful advanced ergonomic analysis tools.

Q: What kind of human activity analysis is SAFEWORK® performing?

A: The SAFEWORK® human activity analysis can be used to assess posture analysis (local and global, lifting/lowering analysis, push/pull analysis, RULA and carry analysis. All SAFEWORK® analysis tools are based proven, validated equations such as NIOSH, Snook & Ciriello, etc.

Q: Does SAFEWORK® support Virtual Reality?

A: Yes. The SAFEWORK® Virtual Reality Module provides a powerful environment for ‘experiencing’ a design whilst it still exists in digital form. Sophisticated motion capture technology and input devices combine to permit users to truly ‘inhabit’ their designs for increased design perception.

Q: Do you supply the Hardware needed to perform Virtual Reality?

A: Yes. Our Professional Services team can provide a complete turnkey Virtual Reality Solution, consisting of hardware, software, implementation, training and support – all reflecting the bespoke requirements of each customer.

Q: How accurate is the SAFEWORK® manikin?

A: The SAFEWORK® manikin is universally recognized as the most accurate manikin commercially available. Many years of research provide the foundation for a manikin that consists of 104 anthropometric variables, 100 segments and 148 degrees of freedom.

Q: Can I create manikins from different populations?

A: Yes. We recognize that our customers are designing, developing and manufacturing products that compete in a global marketplace. SAFEWORK®’s default anthropometry databases can be enhanced with over 94 published international anthropometry databases for true global human modeling requirements.

Q: How can I be sure that my product will accommodate the targeted population?

A: SAFEWORK® possesses the world’s most sophisticated Anthropometry Module. The user has the option of controlling each of the 104 anthropometry variables on the manikin, or picking a small number of critical variables and asking SAFEWORK® to calculate the remainder. This Module permits the user to create ‘boundary’ manikins that accurately reflect the target population. All SAFEWORK® manikins can be saved in libraries for future human modeling activities.

Q: Is SAFEWORK® a multi-user application?

A: Yes. SAFEWORK® licenses are available in "node locked" configuration for individual machines, or as server-based "floating" licenses that can be used by many users.

Q: Can I see what the SAFEWORK® manikin sees?

A: Yes. The SAFEWORK® Vision Module provides a comprehensive suite of Vision Analysis tools. Based on the internationally recognized NASA 3000 Studies, SAFEWORK® displays manikin vision in binocular, ambinocular, monocular and stereo formats, all of which are displayed as central cones, peripheral cones, line-of-sight and blind cones. In addition, the user can specify vision parameters such as the field-of-view, focus distance, etc.

Q: Does SAFEWORK Inc. provide training for the software?

A: Yes. SAFEWORK Inc. offers Basic and Advanced training courses. Training can be given at customer sites, as well as SAFEWORK Inc.’s offices in Montreal.

Q: Does SAFEWORK Inc. provide human factors and ergonomics consulting with or without SAFEWORK®?

A: SAFEWORK Inc.’s team of Professional Service Consultants is highly experienced, qualified Human Factors professionals. We can help you realize your human factors commitments at a strategic business partner level, or provide turnkey solutions for individual projects in all areas of design and manufacturing.
